What I read...

I don't know what it is, but as I've gotten older I seem to spend more time reading than I used to.

I used to read a lot when I was in my mid teens (James Herbert and Stephen King mainly), but as I got older I seemed to never have enough time and the reading was one of the first things to go. A shame really, I'd forgotten what a wonderful escape a really good book can be.

A few years ago I met someone who read quite a lot, just for enjoyment. At that time I was getting stressed with my work and spent nearly all my waking hours (and a lot of hours I should've been asleep) either reading or playing with something that had to do with work. She would tell me that I should have a hobby or do something with my spare time other than work. We talked about books and the stuff she was reading and a name came up that I remembered from about ten years ago, that name was 'Shannara'. We talked about that series of books for a while and that night I ordered a book called 'The Sword of Shannara' by Terry Brooks from an online retailer. From the moment that book arrived, I have been rediscovering the wonderful worlds that these amazing authors can help me escape to.

Sadly, the person I refer to above is no longer a part of my life, but I know you're still out there and if you do happen to read this (you'll know I'm talking about you if you do), then I offer you my sincerest thanks. I'm still now working my way through all of the books we talked about and there are still quite a few on the list, but if you (or anyone else) has any more suggestions please send them to me via the recommendations link over on the menu or alternatively send me an e-mail from the link on the front page.
